Archaeological survey to take place at Oxford North for two weeks

Aerial of Oxford North

Further to our recent communication about a number of surveys taking place at Oxford North, including Geotech and watercourse surveys, we wanted to let you know about a further planned survey.

An archaeological survey will start week commencing 8th June 2020 and will last for approximately two weeks.

Previous trial trenching has taken place over the years with the most recent trial trenching undertaken in 2015 in respect of the Phase 1 detail planning application.

The survey will be carried out by Oxford Archaeology with assistance from our environmental planners at EDP and our ecologists at BSG Ecology.

The fieldwork will require a team of archaeologists with machinery to open and subsequently backfill the trenches.

For this new survey, up to 20 trial trenches will be dug across the project in Canalside, Central and Eastside, each measuring 50m by 2m.

The team will start at Eastside, which is next to the Peartree Park & Ride.

Any livestock in the fields will have been moved safely away in good time before the survey commences.

A reminder that surveyors will be operating only where they can do so safely to follow the Government’s approved Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures.

Thank you for your time.

***Update 12th June 2020: TWO has been informed by Oxford Archaeology that, due to the hardness of the ground, the survey works will be extended to also take place during w/c 22 June 2020.***
